Aid & Attendance Benefits

Pension-Based Support for Veterans Needing Daily Help

🤝 An enhanced pension benefit for veterans and survivors who need help with daily activities or are housebound.

📋 What Is Aid & Attendance?

Aid and Attendance (A&A) is an enhanced VA pension rate for veterans and surviving spouses who need regular help with daily activities. This is a pension-based benefit — separate from disability-based Special Monthly Compensation (SMC).

⚠️ Two Types of A&A — Don't Confuse Them

🏛️ Pension-based A&A (this page): For veterans who qualify for VA pension and need daily assistance. Based on income/need.
🎖️ Disability-based A&A (SMC-L): For veterans with service-connected disabilities requiring aid. See our SMC Guide.
