How VA Math Works

The VA doesn't simply add ratings together. Instead, each rating is applied to your remaining efficiency.

Example: 50% + 30%

1. Start with 100% efficiency
2. 50% rating → 50% disabled, 50% remaining
3. 30% of remaining 50% → 15% additional
4. Total: 50% + 15% = 65% → rounds to 70%

Bilateral Factor: If you have disabilities affecting both arms or both legs, a 10% bilateral factor may apply. This calculator does not automatically apply the bilateral factor — consult your VSO for exact calculations.
