Disabled Veterans' Property Tax Exemption (Basic)

Rating: 100%

Exempts up to $180,671 of assessed home value from property taxes for 100% service-connected disabled veterans.

Eligibility: 100% service-connected disabled veterans or their unmarried surviving spouse. Must be California resident. Source

Disabled Veterans' Property Tax Exemption (Low-Income)

Rating: 100%

Exempts up to $271,009 of assessed home value for qualifying low-income disabled veterans. Household income must be at or below $81,131.

Eligibility: 100% service-connected disabled veterans with household income at or below $81,131. Source

Veterans' Exemption (Basic)

Rating: None

$4,000 exemption on assessed value of property for all qualifying veterans.

Eligibility: Honorably discharged veterans who are California residents. Cannot claim if receiving Homeowners' Exemption. Source

Military Retirement Pay Exclusion

Rating: None

Tax exclusion of $20,000 of military retired pay beginning tax year 2025. Income limits: $125,000 (single/HoH) or $250,000 (joint).

VA Disability Compensation Tax Exemption

🎓 Education

College Fee Waiver - Plan A

Rating: 100% (parent veteran)

Waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at CA Community Colleges, CSU, and UC campuses for dependents. No income restriction.

Eligibility: Children/dependents of veterans who are totally disabled with wartime service, or died of service-connected causes. Source

College Fee Waiver - Plan B

Rating: Any rating (parent veteran)

Waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees at CA Community Colleges, CSU, and UC campuses. Student income cannot exceed $22,273 (2025-2026 academic year).

Eligibility: Children/dependents of veterans with any level of service-connected disability. Income-restricted. Source

College Fee Waiver - Plan C

Rating: 100% or deceased (parent)

Waives mandatory system-wide tuition and fees for children of deceased or totally disabled veterans of the California National Guard.

Eligibility: Children of California National Guard members who died or became totally disabled in the line of duty. Source
